With eSports gaining an official status in Russia and Italy, more countries are certain to follow their example. eSports is steadily growing to a thriving business and corporations like Facebook are starting to take notice of the hype.
According to this research by Narus/Eilers, in just 4 short years, the number of eSports events has almost doubled and the prize pools have exceeded $150M. In 2016, an incredible amount of $594M were spent in online eSports betting.
Team YP, the organization that was formed when YouPorn decided to invest in eSports (it seems that everyone is investing in eSports these days), decided to create and support an all-female LoL team. Unlike conventional sports, eSports don’t have a need for a separate tournament, and on many occasions female players have shown that they can hold their own against their male counterparts.

The IeSF (International eSports Federation) is taking action on the hype that is surrounding the scene the last couple of years and is pushing forward a petition establishing an Athlete’s Commission, one of the prerequisites to get recognized by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).
