Counter-Strike Global Offensive is one of the most popular games and esports titles in today. It has a vibrant free market scenario where any tournament organiser with the means and the methods to organise an event can do so. However, there was always a wall for any new player coming to Counter-Strike. The game was not free of cost. In the latest December Update, Valve has now made Counter-Strike a free to play the game. This is a monumental decision which will significantly boost the number of CS: GO players by a large margin.
So there’s never been a better time to bring in your friends.
All players who played CS: GO before today’s update will receive a commemorative Loyalty Badge they can display on their profile. You were there from the beginning, so show it off! Additionally, all existing CS:GO players have had their accounts upgraded to Prime Status.
As before, Prime Status matches you with other Prime Status players. Additionally, your Prime Status will give you access to the new Souvenir MP5-SD | Lab Rats (available by earning XP while playing Danger Zone matches) and the all-new Danger Zone Case.
The fact that the game is now free to play puts it in direct competition to the likes of Fortnite, which is also free to play the game. Unlike Fortnite, CS: GO also has other game modes which will prove to be a point of interest for many young players. With the intention of growing the player base, Valve also announced that all CS: GO players will be upgraded to the prime status.
Our preferred bookmakers to bet on CS:GO:
The Battle Royale mode
CS: GO will also have a battle royale mode which is the rage right now amongst games. WIth Fortnite, PUBG as well as COD’s Blackout featuring the BR mode, CS: GO can’t be far behind. However, the Battle Royale option in CS: GO is quite different from the other games. First of all, the average time of a game is ten minute. One round will see a participation of sixteen players to a maximum of eighteen players. A player can choose to queue solo, in duos or as a quad.

Players are provided with a tablet where they can view the ‘Danger Zone’ from time to time. They can also upgrade the tablet using cash earned in the game. This cash is earned via missions within the rounds as well as rescuing hostages [ instead of killing enemies]. It is a sublime mix of Counter-Strike and the Battle Royale mode. It should be appealing to many players both within CS: GO as well as outside of the game.
Counter-Strike Global Offensive used to cost $15. WIth the Danger Zone Update, CS: GO is free to play. An addition $15 was necessary to upgrade your account to a Prime account. It ensured better games with fewer cheaters and griefers. However, with the game now going free to play; all existing members have been upgraded to Prime Status. We are not sure how this will affect the quality of Matchmaking within the game, but it definitely serves to reward previous owners.
There are two ways to upgrade your account to Prime Status; reach Rank 21 by earning XP and add an eligible phone number to your Steam account, or purchase the CS:GO Prime Status Upgrade in-game or through the Steam Store.
For users wanting to upgrade their account to prime status, they need to ensure sufficient play-time in the game.
A CS: GO update without skins is just not a complete update. So we now have the Danger Zone Case skins. They feature 17 community-designed weapon finishes. The cases will have the Horizon knives as the ‘rare item’. You can view each of the skin and the knives on the official Danger Zone Case webpage here.
