Dota 2’s International has officially crossed the $35 million mark creating a record for the highest prize pool in esports history.
The Dota 2 TI10 prize pool crossed $35 million on the 100th day of the battle pass.
TI10 crossed last year’s record of $34,330,069 on August 26 and has been steadily climbing since then. There is still a lot of content to be released as part of the TI10 battle pass. Earlier this week, Valve’s Dota 2 developer provided an update on when fans can expert more battle pass content.
Dota 2 Community Complain about Valve’s Silence
The Dota 2 community has been talking about the lack of information from Valve about the Dota Pro Circuit. The DPC, the official Dota 2 esports circuit has been indefinitely postponed since March when the coronavirus pandemic forced tournaments to take place offline.
Dota 2 caster Kyle expressed his frustration at Valve and the lack of any forward vision by the game developer.
While postponing the DPC events was necessary earlier in the year, other esports titles have moved forward with their tournaments. The Overwatch League, Call of Duty League, League of Legends tournaments and multiple third-party CS:GO events are continuing online providing quality entertainment to esports fans at home.
Yesterday, Kyle made a tweet singling out Dota 2 content creator Singsing for broadcasting official Dota 2 matches.
Streamers broadcasting Dota 2 tournaments off DotaTV hurts the ability of tournament organizers to secure exclusive sponsors, often costing them tens of thousands of dollars in sponsorship money.
Kyle apologized in a subsequent tweet but highlighted the problem plaguing Dota 2 esports. Dota 2 tournaments are also available for public viewing in the game’s client. With one of the best live-view client in the game, Dota 2 content creators are allowed by Valve to re-stream events off the DotaTV.
Non-exclusivity of these streams directly affects the ability of tournament organizers to secure brand sponsorships. Hopefully, Dota 2 professional payers and talents can have open discussions with Valve about this issue and come to a resolution soon.
