Valve announced this year’s first Major in Boston

Valve has announced that this year’s fall Major will be held in Boston, Massachusetts and it will be organized by PGL. The Boston Major will feature a  $3.000.000 prize pool and is set to take place between the 7th and 10th of December 2016. The Open Qualifiers will kick off on the 23rd of October and tickets will be available starting Friday, October 14. The event will take place in the Wang Theater, in the heart of the city.

With rosters locked in place, Valve has decided that it’s time to announce this year’s Fall Major, which will held in Boston, USA.  Although Valve has decided to release only snippets of the full picture, there is enough information on the official blog to get the hype train going.

The Boston Major Open Qualifiers will be held on October 23-26 and will be closely followed by Regional Qualifiers on October 27 – 30 and a Group Stage on on December 3 – 4. The Main Event kick offs on the 7th of December will featured three days of intense fighting.

The Main event will feature a single-elimination bracket with best-of-one matches and a best-of-five Grand Final. Sixteen teams will battle for the king share of a $3.000.000 prize pool that as far as we know will remain unchanged.

The single-elimination bracket and two-Majors system represents a departure from the former double-elimination bracket and three-Majors iteration.

For those who wish to attend the event live, tickets will be available starting Friday, October 14. The Wang Theater has been chosen as the venue of this tournament, being located in the heart of the city and featuring a capacity of 3600 guests.

Valve has yet to announce this Fall’s invited teams as well as the talent list that will be hosting, casting and analysing this tournament,

The Boston Major, presented by PGL

Despite being held in North America, the european organization, PGL will be the ones charged with running the tournament.

Based in Bucharest, Romania – PGL is one the biggest eSports events organizers in Europe, rivaling ESL One. They are praised for their professionalism, ground-breaking tournament features and openness to community suggestions and criticism.

PGL were the organizers behind the Manila Major 2016, considered to be the best Major organized so far, by the Dota 2 community. PGL have also organized the CS:GO Major that was held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
